The international homeschooling and unschooling communities are setting their collective keyboards on fire with ridiculously proud posts about the magic that is home education, after singer Billie Eilish and her brother, musician, Finneas O'Connoll have made grammy history after taking out a clean sweep on awards night...
'Being homeschooled is all about self-discovery. It's something that I've really enjoyed and thrived under. I'm not at a high school where I have to base my self-worth off what other people think of me. I have to think, "What would I like to be doing? How would I like to be as a person?" I think that's an enormously positive thing' Billie stated, after winning the awards.
Welcome back to unschooling/ homeschooling in 2020 - here are our nominations for our King and Queen of 2019... Billie Eilish and Finneas O'Connell
Of course, unschoolers are too busy doing cool things, to vote in such matters, so let's just say - we are super psyched to see these two doing what they love, living the dream and inspiring the world to think outside the box!
Before we started homeschooling/unschooling I heard this every school holidays.
On the radio, the television, in commercials, shopping centres...
"When will school holidays be over?" Or "school holidays are over! Kids are finally back at school!" Or "how to keep your kids from driving you crazy this school holidays"...
and I thought I was the only one.
The only crazy parent who dreaded the end of school holidays. Who loved the long evenings where our kids could stay up late, and the sleep-ins in the mornings, when we could wake up in our own time and snuggle on the couch with our hot cocoa and not be bothered by the world.
I thought I was the only one who felt more and more relaxed, the longer that the holidays were.
Who dragged my feet in the week leading up to school.
Thinking about the teachers and the homework and EVERYTHING school.
And then I met other homeschooling/unschooling parents and my life, my world, and my whole perspective changed!
If you are feeling like this too, you are not alone.
Ask questions, dream those big homeschool dreams!
There are so many of us here.
You aren't the only one!
